TEAK WOOD FINISHING TIPS AND FACTS FINISHING TEAK WOOD Your Teak wood products have natural oils and do not require you to finish any of our products. If you leave your Teak furniture outdoors the sun will bleach out the timbers natural color and overtime your Teak furniture will turn a soft silver-grey color. Many people consider this bleached color highly sought after as the furniture blends in with the natural outdoor environment. The natural oils in the Teak timber help to act as a natural preservative and an insect repellent. Fungal decay or attack by termites is deterred by these oils. Teak wood is very easily maintained and needs no treatment of any kind. TEAK OIL OR TUNG OIL You can use Teak Oil or Tung Oil if you choose. The oils will deepen the color and will prevent stains from seeping into the wood, but will not prolong the life of the wood. The oil will also slow down the graying effect caused by the sun’s UV rays. VARNISH OR OTHER FINISHES Teak is an oily wood and does not accept any type of varnish or any other type of urethane sealers. The sealers won’t stick to the wood and will cause you more work as you will now have to remove the varnish that you just put on. This type of finish is not recommended. |
